TRAINING vs COMPETING and MATURE ATHLETE vs BEGINNER ATHLETE

I saw a great article that spoke about the mentioned and thought it would be perfect to share. As we all know, we have Mature or experienced athletes and we have Immature or Beginner athletes. A mature athlete focusses on practising movements (skills) approximately 45% of their time and a immature athlete will do this 5% of the time. A mature athlete trains movements (strength/technique) approximately 45% of their time and a immature athlete will do this about 20% of the time. A mature athlete will then COMPETE when it counts, being 10% of the time, whereas a immature athlete will do this 75% of the time (always wanting to test PB’s, go faster, lose technique, short rep, worry about the scores etc).

Whether training for FUN, HEALTH, FITNESS or COMPETITION, I think we could all relate to this. Spend time practising skills and training within the given percentages. When its time and the training and practice has been put in, then we COMPETE or TEST.
